The Jacksonville Bar Association has a full schedule of continuing legal education opportunities, informative programs and some community service on its calendar in February.

“Remedies in the Law to Protect Vulnerable Adults,” an Elder Law Committee CLE, is noon-1 p.m. Feb. 10 on Zoom.

The program is an overview of elder abuse and exploitation in Florida, focusing on the legal tools available to protect vulnerable adults without the need for immediate guardianship.

Attendees will learn to distinguish vulnerability from incapacity, understand applicable civil and criminal remedies and explore practical advocacy strategies, including exploitation injunctions and early intervention techniques.

The course also highlights real-world scenarios, caregiver considerations and key state resources.

The JBA Young Lawyers Section will present its first YLS Institute lunch and learn program of 2026 noon-1 p.m. Feb. 17 in Chief Judge Lance Day’s chambers at the Duval County Courthouse.

The topic for the first installment is county court, civil and criminal.

Panelists will be Duval County Judges Michael Bateh, Robin Lanigan and James Nealis.

Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. in the Lawyers Lounge on the second floor of the courthouse.

A CLE designed to help lawyers develop their firm’s pro bono practice is noon-1 p.m. Feb. 19 on Zoom.

“McDaniels v. State: Striking down Florida’s ban on open carry of firearms,” is noon-1 p.m. Feb. 19 in Courtroom 504 at the Duval County Courthouse.

The CLE focuses on the practical impact of Second Amendment doctrine on criminal practice, judicial decision-making and local government compliance, including arrests, probable cause, charging decisions and constitutional limits on enforcement.

The annual Young Lawyers Section Chili Cook-off is 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 21 at Riverside Arts Market under the Fuller Warren Bridge.

Proceeds benefit the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Food Pantry Ministry. The public is invited to sample chili made by teams from law firms and vote for their favorite.
