What appears to be the 10th Foxtail Coffee Co. location in Northeast Florida has been permitted for build-out in Lakewood Promenade South at southeast University and San Jose boulevards.
The city issued a permit Jan. 14 for Rhodes Building Co. of Longwood to build-out 1,685 square feet of space at 1518 University Blvd. W. at a project cost of $382,686.
The storefront is a neighbor to Scramblers at 1500 University Blvd. W. in a standalone building in front of the strip center anchored by Winn-Dixie.
Jacksonville-based Sleiman Enterprises owns the shopping center. Lakewood FT LLC, based at the San Marco Foxtail Coffee, is leasing the Lakewood space.
Universal Engineering Sciences LLC of Jacksonville provided private plan review. AHkent Design LLC of Deland is the interior designer.
Foxtail Coffee Co. has nine shops open throughout Northeast Florida with four in Jacksonville in Mandarin, Murray Hill, The Palms at Gate Parkway and San Marco; one in Jacksonville Beach; three in St. Johns County in Palm Valley, Ponte Vedra Beach and St. Augustine; and in Nassau County in Wildlight.
According to foxtailcoffee.com, the company’s 104 open locations comprise 85 in Florida, eight in Georgia, six in Michigan, two in Nevada, two in Virginia and one in North Carolina.
Foxtail Coffee also features Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream, which began as a food truck.
Foxtail Coffee Co. was founded in 2016 in Winter Park. It began franchising in 2019.
In addition to coffee and tea, the company’s menu includes breakfast and lunch sandwiches, bagels, croissants, muffins, banana and lemon bread, cookies and more.
It also sells coffee beans, gear and mugs.

In Jacksonville, the San Marco shop opens at 6 a.m. Monday-Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday-Sunday, closing at 7 p.m. daily.
Mandarin, Murray Hill and The Palms at Gate Parkway shops are open 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
