Grumpy’s Restaurant is adding a Fleming Island location, its sixth in Northeast Florida.

The breakfast, lunch and brunch concept is planned in the former Dick’s Wings at 1803 East West Parkway that closed in 2023, according to a Jan. 21 news release. It is south of a Walmart Supercenter and north of Holiday Inn & Suites Fleming Island.

It will be the second franchise for Dell Hoard Jr., who operates the Middleburg location with his family, including his spouse, Courtney Hoard, and parents, Dell Hoard Sr. and Peggy Hoard.

“Our Middleburg franchisees have built something truly special and watching them grow into multi-unit owners is incredibly meaningful,” Daniel DeLeon, Grumpy’s president and CEO, said in the release. “Their commitment to their guests, their team, and the Clay County community reflects everything we believe in as a brand.”

Dell Hoard Jr. said his experience with the company has been “exceptional.”

“Running our first location has been challenging in the best possible way; it’s the kind of work that feels meaningful,” he said in the release.

Founded in 1999, Grumpy’s has locations in Middleburg and Orange Park in Clay; in Neptune Beach in Duval; in the Fountains at St. Johns in St. Johns County; and in Wildlight in Nassau County.

Grumpy’s menu features rotating chalkboard specials alongside regular items, including pancakes, omelets, sandwiches, soups and salads.
