Aldi has set a March 12 opening date for its store in Neptune Beach, one of nearly 80 former Southeastern Grocers locations the Germany-based grocer says it plans to convert to its brand in 2026.

The chain plans an 8:45 a.m. ribbon-cutting for the store at 1209 Atlantic Blvd. The location previously housed a Winn-Dixie.

Aldi issued a news release that calls it its “first store opening in Neptune Beach.” It has not indicated there will be more there.

Aldi operates about 300 locations in Florida, including at least 22 in Northeast Florida, according to its website.

The company aims to operate 3,200 stores nationally by the end of 2028, adding to its current portfolio of 2,600-plus stores in at least 38 states.

The first 200 customers at the Neptune Beach store will receive a gift bag containing a gift card and Aldi products, according to a March 9 email. The store will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Aldi brands itself as a discount option with streamlined shopping, smaller stores than many competitors, a relatively smaller assortment of groceries and no service departments. The chain maintains a system in which customers pack their own bags and can rent a cart for a quarter, receiving the coin back when the cart is returned.

Aldi stores typically carry meats, produce, seafood, cheese, wine and other products, including lifestyle goods, home decor and pet accessories.

Internationally, Aldi operates more than 6,600 stores in 11 countries. The first U.S. location opened in Iowa in 1976.

In March 2024, Aldi acquired 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi from Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers Inc.

The chain announced Jan. 12, 2026, that it plans to continue its Southeast expansion in 2026 by converting close to 80 Southeastern Grocers locations. It has acquired at least 14 Northeast Florida stores from SEG for conversion, including the Neptune Beach store.

In February 2025, a consortium of private investors led by Southeastern CEO Anthony Hucker acquired Southeastern Grocers from Aldi in a deal that included about 170 Winn-Dixie stores in those five states, along with the chain’s liquor store business.

SEG has renamed itself The Winn-Dixie Co.

Aldi’s 22 Northeast Florida, including several more identified or in development for conversion, are rivaling Winn-Dixie.

Winn-Dixie.com shows at least 28 stores in Northeast Florida, including three liquor stores, as well as one supermarket that has been identified for conversion into Aldi.
