Seven years after opening along Atlantic Boulevard near Interstate 295, JaxCo Furniture says it is closing.

In a March 16 release, owner Mike McCann announced he would hold a final liquidation sale starting March 19 and that the independent retailer’s building at 9978 Atlantic Blvd. is for lease.

He cited the lease expiration and challenging market conditions for the decision.

“It has been an honor to serve our customers and the Jacksonville community. We are sincerely grateful to them and our staff over the years” McCann said in the release.

The Daily Record reported in January 2019 that the store had opened. At that time, JaxCo said it was focusing on millennial and first-time homebuyers by offering affordable pricing and low-pressure sales. The store was built-out in a space previously occupied by Rec Warehouse.

The March 16 release said JaxCo offered stock for customers “at every stage of life” and tried to give back to the community, “demonstrated by McCann’s involvement with local church and charitable organizations.”

The liquidation sale includes furniture, mattresses, rugs and home accessories from such brands as Ashley, Parker House, Stearns & Foster, and Tempur-Pedic.
