Bill Bishop, a 2015 candidate for Jacksonville mayor, said today he will not seek or accept endorsements or contributions from officials with the public safety and city employee unions.
Bishop, who also is a City Council member, made the announcement during the Cindy Graves radio show, according to a news release from his campaign.
He said the pension reform issue may not be resolved before the 2015 mayoral election and “may well be kicked down the road yet again until the next mayor is in office.”
After the show, he said, “If I am the next mayor, I will not allow even the perception that I am in the pocket of any special interest, including unions. Simply put, my compass tells me this is the right thing to do.”
