Mayor Alvin Brown called on the almost 90 lawyers at a joint Catholic Lawyers Guild and Christian Legal Society meeting Tuesday to give back to the community and help to create jobs, support Downtown and improve education.
“One thing we have to do is we have to work together,” Brown said at The University Club event.
“You can’t just have faith and sit back,” he said, “You have to work hard.”
Brown talked about the need to create opportunities, including to assist homeless veterans and to bring young people back to Jacksonville after they earn their educational degrees.
Brown asked the lawyers to look at their situations and measure their support for the community.
“Did you do everything you could to improve the quality of life and opportunity for all?” he asked.
