Tacos and Taxes, member luncheon among events planned in February.

By Craig Shoup • JBA Executive Director

As February arrives, we are looking forward to the great events the Jacksonville Bar Association is hosting this month.

We have many of our committees meeting. It is a great time to join any of our committees. Many provide outstanding practice area CLEs and information that can help improve your ability to deliver legal services to your clients.

We are hosting Tacos and Taxes on Feb. 3 at Burrito Gallery in Brooklyn. This is a joint happy hour and networking event with the local CPA association.

On Feb. 9 we have free admission (registration is required and limited to 100 members) for the Jacksonville University vs. Eastern Kentucky basketball game at Swisher Gym, thanks to our friends at JU Athletics and Pajcic and Pajcic. Come out and have an enjoyable night of good college basketball.

Feb. 16 we host state Supreme Court Justice Charles Canady in person at our member luncheon at the Marriott Jacksonville Downtown, the former Omni Jacksonville hotel. This is a limited attendance event so sign up today.

Our Young Lawyers Section hosts its annual Chili Cook-off 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Riverside Arts Market. Come out to see local law firms compete in several categories for who makes the best chili. This is a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida.

Also on Feb. 19, our Hispanic and Latino Interest Committee is hosting a volunteer day at Feeding Northeast Florida. This event is open to all members of the Jacksonville Bar Association.

We wrap up February with a night at the Jacksonville Icemen vs. Florida Everblades hockey game at 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.

For our longtime Jacksonville residents, this is a throwback game and the home team will be wearing Jacksonville Lizard Kings jerseys. The tickets are $25 and that includes $15 in food and beverage credit at the concession stand.

As you can tell, we are busy and active. We look forward to seeing you soon and as always, feel free to reach out to me if I can help in any way.
