The Jacksonville Transportation Authority hired Rock Region METRO executive Charles D. Frazier as senior vice president and chief operating officer.

Frazier will join Jacksonville’s bus and mass transit provider after serving as CEO at the North Little Rock, Arkansas-based METRO system, according to a news release Dec. 2.

A masstransitmag.com report Nov. 15 says Frazier planned to depart Rock Region METRO on Dec. 10 after nearly three years in the position.

“Charles brings significant experience to our Transit Operations Division, the largest and most critical for our customers,” JTA CEO Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. said in the release.

“Charles will be key in enhancing and expanding our transportation and mobility services for Jacksonville and the Northeast Florida Region,” Ford said.

According to the release, Frazier will oversee strategic planning for JTA’s fixed bus routes, the First Coast Flyer Bus Rapid Transit network, regional and alternative mobility services, the St. Johns River Ferry, and the Service Planning and Vehicle Maintenance departments.

Frazier has been in the transportation industry for 21 years, including stints as assistant executive director of Palm Tran Inc. in Palm Beach County and director of electronic services and security for Palm Beach County.

In Little Rock, Frazier was appointed to the Governor’s Economic Task Force and the Mayor’s Mobility Sub Committee, the release says.

“I look forward to serving the community and contributing to the mission of improving Northeast Florida’s economy, environment and quality of life by providing safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable multimodal transportation services and facilities,” Frazier said.
