The Jacksonville Bar Association is excited to announce our Law Day luncheon will be held May 8 with featured speaker Neal R. Sonnett, Esq. Sonnett is a highly respected Miami attorney. He has received the 2001 Charles R. English Award (ABA Criminal Justice Section), the 1997 Wm. Reece Smith Award for Public Service (Stetson Law School), the 1993 Antidefamation League Jurisprudence Award and the 1989 Florida Bar Foundation Medal of Honor. Not only has he received many awards, he has earned the respect of his peers by being named as one of the ‘Nation’s Top Litigators’, one of the ‘Nations’s Top White Collar Criminal Defense Attorneys’ and three times named one of the ‘100 Most Influential Lawyers in America’ by the National Law Journal.

Sonnett is admitted to the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, Ninth Circuit, and Eleventh Circuit, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida and Eastern District of Michigan, and the Federal Trial Bar. He received his Juris Doctorate at the University of Miami School of Law, where he currently serves as an adjunct professor. Sonnett is a former chair of the American Bar Association Criminal Justice Section and now represents the section in the ABA House of Representatives. Sonnett currently serves as Chair of the ABA Task Force on the Treatment of Enemy Combatants. In addition, he has written the ABA’s recommendations on the issue which were presented to the House of Delegates on Feb. 10.

Sonnett was named one of the ‘Most Respected Attorneys in Miami’ by Miami Today. The Jacksonville Bar Association is excited to welcome Sonnett to Jacksonville and is pleased to have him as the keynote speaker of our 2003 Law Day.
