Name: Nia Maxwell

Age: 26

Family: I am excited to marry Hunter Livingston at the beach in October. Our dog, Drifter, completes our family.

Pets: Drifter, a 3-year-old Spanador rescue (part lab, part spaniel, but mostly perfect).

Education: I received my B.A. in political science from the University of North Florida (Go Ospreys!) in 2010 before receiving my J.D. from Florida Coastal School of Law in May 2013.

Admitted to the Bar: The Florida Bar in April.

Employed by: Office of the Public Defender, 4th Judicial Circuit.

Field of practice: Criminal defense

Professional organizations: The Jacksonville Bar Association

Community involvement: I have a lot of different passions and I like to get involved by volunteering time to various organizations as they pop up. Or by donating money and running 5Ks around Jacksonville with my fiancé. My favorite runs are those I can do with Drifter to raise money for local animal shelters and rescue organizations.

How did you become involved?

I stay aware of activities in the community though various local publications and I sign up for email notifications from organizations that are important to me.

How can someone else become involved?

Stay up to date on what’s going on locally. Pick up a Void Magazine or Folio Weekly — they always list different events happening in Jacksonville.

What was the last book you read or are reading?

I hate to admit it, but I had to read “Gone Girl” before the movie came out.
