University of North Florida narrows president search to four candidates

Finalists have experience as lawyers, deans, professors and provost.

The University of North Florida Board of Trustees has narrowed the search for UNF’s next president to four finalists. 

According to curriculum vitaes provided by UNF on April 28, the candidates to become UNF’s seventh president are:

• David Blackwell is a professor of finance at Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky and UK’s former provost. Blackwell received a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Tennessee Knoxville.

• David Brennen is an attorney and professor of law and former dean of the J. David Rosenberg College of Law at the University of Kentucky. Brennen received a bachelor’s in finance from Florida Atlantic University and J.D. and LL.M degrees from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.

• Moez Limayem is the Lynn Pippenger Dean at Muma College of Business at the University of South Florida. Limayem received a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Institut Superieur de Gestion in Paris and an MBA and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.

• Marc Miller is is an attorney and dean of the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona. Miller received a bachelor’s degree in policy, philosophy and economics from Pomona College in Claremont, California, and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.

The next president will succeed David Szymanski, who resigned as UNF’s president in August to become CEO and executive director of MedNexus, the UNF medical and health care initiative.

Site visits begin April 29 for the candidates to meet students, faculty and staff.

The president-elect will be chosen by the board of trustees in mid-late May. Confirmation by the Florida Board of Governors of the State University System is expected by the end of June.
