The Young Lawyers Section year is coming to a close and the members of the board hopes that we have accomplished our goals of making a difference in our community and providing education and entertainment to our Jacksonville young lawyers. If you have missed out on any events, not to worry, YLS has several opportunities for professional and personal growth this summer.

First on the agenda is a personalized young lawyer’s U.S. Courthouse at Jacksonville tour conducted by the Judge Timothy Corrigan, who promises to use his pull to get us into the double-secret-handshake areas. If you have not had a chance to see the opulent surroundings that our federal judges are forced to endure, come join us on July 17 at 5 p.m. Don’t be late, you don’t want to keep the judge waiting. RSVP to Troy Smith at [email protected].

Following the tour, we will walk over for Happy Hour at The Seminole Club courtesy of Jim Bailey. Rumor has it that Jim agreed to get us into this classy establishment for a happy hour as part of a confidential settlement having something to do with unfounded reports of an impending birth. (No comment). The Bar will open at 5:30 p.m. The Seminole Club is located downtown at 400 N. Hogan Street.

The last event on the 2003 agenda is the Annual YLS Luncheon at the Omni, July 31 at noon. At the luncheon, we will be holding elections for three seats on the YLS Board of Governors. We have four candidates that have thrown their hats in the ring – R. Troy Smith (not our Troy Smith), Tammy Butler, Katie Lee and Dawn Hudson. It’s not too late to get your name on the ballot. Just call or e-mail me at 346-5554, [email protected] by July 21.

In lieu of a luncheon speaker, we will have an educational program presented by Jacksonville’s own panel of legal experts: Graham Allen, Hank Coxe, Brad Johnson, Harry Shorstein, and Lamar Winegeart. We are not privy at this time to the topics the panel will address, but we are certain it will involve serious discussion of the most pressing issues facing young lawyers.

Remember, the Luncheon is free to all young lawyers and summer clerks. Please RSVP to the Bar office at [email protected].
