David Stelbrink is a vice president of First Bank Mortgage.

FOR HOW LONG?

He opened the company about a year and a half ago. He had worked with Fairfield Mortgage for almost 12 years when he was approached by the First Bank of Georgia to open its first office in Florida. He opened the office in the SunTrust building on Baymeadows Road.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

“Everything. I’m a loan originator and I manage the office with David Mordecai.”

HOW DID YOU GET INTO LENDING?

After college, Stelbrink worked in the savings and loan industry. “Through the years, savings and loans have turned into mortgage banking operations. I found I really enjoyed the lending side of the business.”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT LENDING?

“It’s basically just the satisfaction of doing something useful and helping people buy homes who wouldn’t normally be able to.”

HOW MUCH DOES THE BANK LEND A MONTH?

“The bank probably lends about $50 million a month. That is small compared to other banks.”

HOW MANY ARE ON YOUR STAFF?

Eleven, including four loan officers, three processors, a closer, assistant closer and a receptionist.

PARENT COMPANY LOCATED?

First Bank of Georgia in Augusta.

WHAT MORTGAGE RANGES DO YOU HAVE, IF ANY?

“We go from the very small to the very large.”

HOW DO YOU PROMOTE YOUR COMPANY?

“Basically through networking with real estate agents and builders. Since all we do is mortgages, we don’t have local banks branches to get our name out. We are here to service the local real estate and builder population.”

BIRTHPLACE

Alton, Ill.

MOVED TO JACKSONVILLE?

In 1982. “I had been working for a savings and loan and we always came to Florida for vacation,” he said. “One year I interviewed while on vacation and got a job offer to be a regional vice president for Florida Federal.”

COLLEGE

He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business administration from Western Illinois University.

FAMILY

He has been married to Mary for 32 years. They have a champion Frisbee catching dog named Steeler. “I used to be a big fan of the Steelers, now I’m a Jaguars fan,” he said.

HOBBIES

When he’s not working he likes to play golf. He travels to Frisbee tournaments all around Jacksonville.

PROFESSIONAL AND CIVIC ASSOCIATIONS

He is a member of Northeast Florida Association of REALTORS and the Sales and Marketing Council of the Northeast Florida Builders Association. Civically, he is involved with the Wolfson Children’s Hospital. “I help with a lot of their charity functions,” he said.

RESIDES

Deercreek.

FAVORITES

A recent book he read and recommends is “A Dog Year” by Jon Katz. “Men in Black II” was the last movie he saw. “It was entertaining, but not as good as the first. My all-time favorite is the original ‘Thomas Crown Affair.’” When dining out, he enjoys traveling to Augustine for a meal at Aruanno’s Restaurant. When relaxing at home, he tunes in “Frasier.”
