Lisa Hand has been the account executive for the Jacksonville division of KB Home Mortgage for a year and a half.

WHAT DOES SHE DO?

“I handle the mortgage relations for all of the Jacksonville division. I’m also on the corporate staff with the builder, originate loans and meet with customers. I also wear a couple of hats because I also help out with the public relations within the company. I head what they call the KB Fun Committee. I plan all the events that we do such as going to baseball games or flag football games. I do a little bit of everything around here.”

CUSTOMER RELATIONS?

Hand talks with most of the customers who apply for loans through KB Mortgage. She has five loan counselors under her that help with the majority of the loan applications. “I monitor the loan from the minute that the sales agent writes the sales contract until the day of closing.”

BEFORE KB?

She worked for Taylor Bean and Whitaker, a retail and wholesale mortgage company. She has been in the mortgage business for many years, working first as a processor, then a loan officer and worked her way up to management positions. She has worked for several companies, including Citrus Bank, First South Bank and Community National and Norwest (which is now Wells Fargo).

HOW DID SHE GET

INTO LENDING?

She moved back to Jacksonville from Atlanta to finish her criminology major in college. She took a job with a temp agency so she could work and go to school. They placed her with Norwest and within two days as their receptionist, they hired her full-time. “As much as I enjoyed criminology, I decided to get into finance. I started from the bottom up. In less than four months I was assisting the branch, sales, area and construction managers. From there I moved up.”

WHAT DOES SHE LIKE ABOUT HER JOB?

“I’m a big people person. Customer service is really important to me, it always has been. I love the interaction. There is nothing like putting somebody in their first home and having that experience with them from start to finish.”

LAUREL AWARDS?

Hand recently won two Laurels, one for Lender of the Year Employed by a Builder and Top Producer of the Year.

HOW DID SHE FEEL ABOUT IT?

“I was surprised. It made me see how far I’ve come in the years I’ve been in the industry. It really marked my achievement for me personally.”

TIPS FOR NEW LOAN OFFICERS?

Hand says for them to learn the business from the bottom. “Process some loans and get some of that under your belt. Maybe close a couple loans. So you know every aspect of the business before going into it.”
