With a crowd as diverse as a Jaguars co-owner and an Elvis impersonator watching Saturday, Jacksonville’s baseball leader wed a school principal who barely a week ago hosted President George W. Bush at her school.
Peter “Pedro” Bragan, general manager of the Jacksonville Suns, tied the knot at Historic St. Andrew’s with Nancy Miller, principal of Hyde Grove Elementary School. She was featured on the Times-Union’s front page getting a hug from President Bush during his visit.
The ceremony was viewed by about 100, including Jaguars co-owner Delores Weaver, team general counsel Paul Vance, Chamber chairman Jim McCollum, school board friends, baseball team sponsors and Elvis Himselves, a local Elvis Presley impersonator who performs each year at Suns’ games.
After the half-hour ceremony, everyone walked next door to the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville for a lengthy reception that included draft beer, hot dogs, chicken wings and champagne. Another 100 or so showed up for the reception, enjoying a cool midday while seated at tables along the main concourse of the field.
With the scoreboard’s screen showing a photo of the couple, they cut several cakes, including one shaped like a catcher’s mitt, before departing on their honeymoon.
Destination: Sunday’s Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game in California.
