• Shaelyn L. Haag, a student at Florida Coastal School of Law, has received the Florida Big Sister of the Year award from the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. She will now compete for Big Sister of the Year on a national level.
• A crew from a Miami television station was is town Thursday to film a report on the airport’s new electronic baggage tagging system.
• Our Chamber has a long-standing traditional of an annual Leadership Trip to look over other cities. Some other cities do it, too — Raleigh will be here this month.
• Fowler White Boggs Banker will hold an invitation-only open house April 28 to celebrate its new Bank of America tower location.
• On the mend: Kirk Sherman, an auditor in the City Council’s auditor’s office. Sherman, a bicycle enthusiast, took a tumble while riding off-road earlier this week. Sherman is expected to be out of the office for a couple of days.
• Pedro Lima, younger brother of account supervisor Antonio Lima at The Dalton Agency, will be featured on HGTV as a designer. On the “Mission Organization” television program, he will help a Pennsylvania couple transform a living and dining room. The program will air five times, April 21-25.
• The numbers haven’t all been tallied, but it’s a good bet Wednesday night’s Art Walk drew even more people than the 3,000 or so who attended the last one. There were 16 venues set up, and live music was featured on the porch at Sterling’s Downtown.
• The elevator was on the fritz Thursday at the old Barnett Bank building, home to DVI’s Ambassador corps. The hope was it would be repaired before the day was out. One Ambassador spoke of a goal to get in better shape . . . but didn’t think it was necessary to get it all accomplished in one day by hiking up and down the eight flights of stairs.
