• The Jacksonville Port Authority is hosting a workshop and networking opportunity for minority and women-owned businesses Aug. 19 from 6:30-9 p.m. at its offices. For details, call 630-3067.

• Lindsay Anne Lipsky has been selected to participate in AmSouth Bank’s management associate program. Lipsky is one of 33 participants who will study operating procedures, strategies, customer service and the bank’s operations and technology.

• Two local dentists have been honored by the Florida Dental Association. Dr. Steve Slavkin received the Dentists Care Distinguished Service Award for his work with the indigent. Slavkin manages the dental clinic at the I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless, is the coordinator for Dentists Care Jacksonville and treats patients at the St. Matthew Community Center. Dr. Lew Walker received the J. Leon Schwartz Lifetime Achievement Award for his career achievements in the dental profession.

• The Housing Partnership of Jacksonville has been awarded a $225,000 three-year grant for a community revitalization in the Pine Forest community just south of San Marco. The project includes construction of 36 new homes.

• Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida has named Jan Morse vice president of operations. A former program director at Southside United Methodist Church, Morse will oversee the annual agency audit and the administration and coordination of all activities. She also will be working with program staff, writing grants and working on system development within the organization.

• The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida’s (BCBSF) philanthropic affiliate, awarded Hope Haven Children’s Clinic a $33,190, two-year grant to help fund a new program serving infants and children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The clinic will offer behavior management training for children and families struggling with this often devastating disorder.
