• If you happened to be watching television earlier this week, you may have spotted Super Bowl Host Committee president Michael Kelly and Chamber Cornerstone executive director Jerry Mallot on ESPN’s “Cold Pizza.” Both were in New York on a marketing and media trip and at the last minute made it on the air.
• The Trust and Probate Section of the Jacksonville Bar Association is hosting a panel discussion, Avoiding Litigation in Your Estate Plan, Sept. 7 at the SunTrust building from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. RSVP by Sept. 2 to [email protected].
• The I. M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless is sponsoring a fundraiser Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the lobby of Independent Square.
• The Wachovia building’s fountain is out of commission this week. The fountain is undergoing some new mortar work.
• Rick Ferrin, executive director of the Jacksonville Port Authority, is the speaker at Monday’s Rotary Club of Jacksonville meeting. It begins at 12:30 p.m. at the Omni.
• The Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association will hold its opening reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Sept. 9, at Simon’s Wine Bar. All lawyers — men as well as women — are invited to attend. The cost is $15 for nonmembers and free for members who are up to date on their annual membership fee of $75.
• After more than four years with the State Attorney’s Office, Shawn Arnold is leaving to become an associate with the Brennan Manna & Diamond Law Firm. He will be handling primarily commercial and business litigation matters.
• According to the Supervisor of Elections Office, Supervisor John Stafford is recovering nicely at Brooks Rehabilitation. In June, Stafford briefly left the clinic and returned to the hospital after experiencing high blood pressure. He’s now said to be doing fine, but it remains uncertain when he will return to the office.
• Need a ride to the Jaguars home games? The London Bridge Pub on the corner of East Adams and Ocean streets is offering a shuttle to and from the stadium for a $1.
• Speaking of the Jags,the City is encouraging hundreds of its employees to take off early on Friday. The reason? The City needs their parking spots in the West Courthouse and trolley lots for the 8 p.m. game against the Green Bay Packers.
• Police and Fire Pension Fund administrator John Keane was in City Hall Wednesday, asking about the condition of the Laura Street buildings. The Fund has shown interest in developing the three buildings, which feature some of downtown’s most distinct architecture but are also suspected to be deteriorating. “You can bet we’ll want to take a look inside,” said Keane.
