• Things aren’t looking so good for the downtown jazz club Eclate. Word from the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission is the club has fallen behind on its payments to the City. According to JEDC representatives, money owed for incentives to help finance the venture are over two months past due. Compounding the JEDC’s concern: Eclate’s telephone service has been disconnected for almost a week.

• In response to our City Note Monday about subcontractors on the scrapped Duval County Courthouse project complaining of not getting paid, Cannon Design managing principal Joe Calvarese said his firm, the courthouse’s architect, isn’t in arrears to any subcontractors. In fact, he said Cannon didn’t make much use of contractors or subcontractors and wonders if his firm is being confused with project manager Jacobs.

• Look for two new Downtown Vision, Inc. ambassadors to start this week. Tiffany Russell and Leif Olson are in training and should be on the streets by Friday.

• The First Bank of Jacksonville has named Cindy Delaparte president and CEO of the company. Delaparte has served as COO since February.

• Former Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn Elders is scheduled to speak Friday at an annual AIDS awareness awards luncheon at the Schultz Center as a part of Northeast Florida World AIDS Week events. Event chair Avery Garner said awards will be presented to people of the community that have done a great deal of service regarding HIV/AIDS awareness. Avery said Elders was chosen to speak at the event because she is an outspoken advocate for HIV/AIDS issues and her presence will generate public interest in the event.

• The Jacksonville Historical Society will host a Holiday History Book Fair Dec. 13 from 4-8 p.m. and Dec. 14 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at Old St. Andrews across from the Arena.

NOTE Due to the installation of new software for recording of documents at the Clerk of the Courts, documents filed on Thursday, Dec. 2, and Friday, Dec. 3, will not be recorded and returned until Monday, Dec. 6.
