The Cathedral Foundation, recognized as one of Florida’s leading elder care organizations, is conducting a weekend program for those wanting to know more about living the second half of life with zeal.
“For The Love of Your Life” is being held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the University of North Florida Conference Center. The focus of the program is to provide a personal development experience that will help enhance the quality of living for elders and those moving toward their elder years.
“This program is not just about the elder population, but for people just beginning to think about this,” said Darby Stubberfield, director of resource development for The Cathedral Foundation. “It’s a way for people to start architecting what they want their later years to be like.”
The foundation, with the help of local and national sponsors, plan to discuss topics such as learning about living life as an elder, exploring beliefs and behaviors, learning life strategies and formulating a legacy during the “For The Love of Your Life” weekend.
Living a more enjoyable and meaningful life is what the foundation helps Jacksonville elders do.
Established in 1962, the foundation started as an outreach program of St. John’s Cathedral. The ministry, which provides Meals on Wheels, protective counseling and community care for nearly 5,500 elders daily, also provides living residences for Jacksonville senior citizens.
The Cathedral Towers, Townhouse and Terrace are now an integral part of the downtown skyline. The combined 770 apartments house elders, typically single females in their late 60’s and early 70’s, that are actively engaged in the community.
The senior communities are just one more way the foundation seeks to make life more enjoyable for elders.
“It is our experience that we have seen from the elders living in our communities,” said Stubberfield, “that aging is a time that can be something positive. It is something to forward to.”
“For The Love of Your Life” is a free weekend seminar open to people of all ages. The Cathedral Foundation asks those present to commit to the entire weekend for the full impact of the experience. Those interested can arrange to have box lunches prepared for $10 a lunch.
