Teco Peoples Gas held its third annual Bass Fishing Tournament last month at Crystal Cove Marina to benefit Northeast Florida Builders Association Builders Care. More than 75 boats competed for first place, a prize of $5,000. Each boat had two anglers and could catch up to eight bass.
The grand prize went to Wayne and Derek Black from San Mateowith a combined weight of 25.80 pounds. The largest bass caught went to Manuel Spencer and Brian Warwick from Palatka with a weight of 7.68 pounds.
“The real winners of the tournament are the people Builders Care will be able to help with the $35,000 check that TECO Peoples Gas presented as a result of the event,” Bill Wilson, executive director of Builders Care, said. “This money could provide 70 water heaters or 1,750 carpenter hours for rot repair, 4,375 bundles of roof shingles, or 321 windows, or 2,916 gallons of paint. Ultimately the money earned as a result of this great fishing tournament will purchase a better life for many in need.”
