• City Council members Art Graham and Art Shad met Tuesday to discuss pending legislation that would permanently close a portion of Landon Avenue. The Council’s Transportation, Technology and Energy Committee deferred the bill last week. Graham, who chairs that committee, said Shad wanted to know what information he would need to bring to the next meeting so that the bill could either be approved or withdrawn.

• Downtown Vision, Inc. shot a music video for the song “Good Morning Downtown” Tuesday afternoon. Airing later this year on Ch. 7, the song was written by DVI ambassadors Lydia Cobbert and Celeste Harrell.

• Morton’s steakhouse hosted Bill Jula’s Fast Pitch! speed networking service Monday evening. Jula said the concept was inspired by speed dating where singles would spend about five minutes with a line of potential suitors. Same concept here except the participants pay $40 to pitch commerce instead of romance. About 20 people attended the first meeting in Jacksonville, but Jula said he expects about twice that when he returns. Jula said he would bring Fast Pitch! back about every six weeks.

• What will the national sports media think of Jacksonville’s night life when they arrive for the Super Bowl? Early indicators aren’t promising. Members of an NFL Films crew in town to tape the Jags training camp say they haven’t been too impressed during their stay in the Adam’s Mark Hotel with downtown’s after-dark scene. They say they’ll try the beach next.

• The City has ordered work stopped on the Lerner building at 20 W. Adams St. for unpermitted construction.

• State Sen. Stephen Wise has called a public hearing for Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. in City Council Chambers to discuss the proposed Medicaid cut by the Florida Commission for the transportation disadvantaged. The public is invited to attend.
