Following months of limited parking woes, Amsterdam Sky Cafe owner Mark Jackson can smile a bit — parking meters were installed last week outside the restaurant.

Jackson called it a positive move.

“It’s good that the City has provided us with some parking,” he said. “It will allow for more people to be able to come down here.”

Until recently Jackson maintained a fairly contentious relationship with the City, which had offered no previous solution.

At one time Jackson had expressed interest in using the adjacent Arena’s parking lot. That interest was quickly quashed.

“But we’re pleased with this resolution,” he said. “The meters are free after 6 p.m. so it works very well for people who would like to come down here for happy hour or for dinner.

“We hope the City installs more so that we can continue to encourage pedestrian activity down here.”
