• Improvements to the pavilion at Metropolitan Park will finish in time for Florida/Georgia. According to the City’s Parks and Recreation Department, it will undergo some repainting and repaving at an estimated cost of $225,000. “We’re trying to extend its lifespan by about 10 years,” a spokesperson said.

• Want a chance to win two Super Bowl tickets while helping those in need? The American Red Cross is giving away two tickets during a drawing at its 90th Anniversary Celebration & Silent Auction Thursday at the Cummer Museum. Tickets for the drawing are $20 or six tickets for $100. No more than 1,000 tickets will be sold.

• Congratulations to Bob Simpson of the Airport Authority, who recently received his American Association of Airport Executives accreditation. The accreditation is a grueling process that takes a few years to complete and was even tougher for Simpson because he’s also the manager of the Authority’s three general aviation airports and its Super Bowl coordinator. Simpson is the guest speaker at the Meninak Club meeting June 28.

• Starting Tuesday, The Landing’s High Tide Happy Hour will start a little later and last a little longer. The new hours are 6-9 p.m. Along with the $2 drink specials, there will be a live band every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

• At the City Council’s agenda meeting Tuesday, an attorney in the General Counsel’s Office asked Council president Lad Daniels if a bill filed at the 11th hour would be read that evening. Daniels, who is usually a stickler on last-minute bills, quickly joked, “of course it is. That bill’s mine.”

• The Wine Cellar is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month. Located on the Southbank, the restaurant was among the first in the city to feature upscale dining. A black-tie ceremony is planned for June 26.

• Post offices will be closed Friday to honor the memory of former President Ronald Reagan. There will be no regular mail delivery of retail window service. Express mail will be delivered.

• An “Evening With the Mayor on Economic Development” will be held June 17 from 7-9 p.m., at Evangel Temple Assembly of God, 5755 Ramona Blvd. Topics to be covered include the City’s small and disadvantaged business enterprise policy, Super Bowl economic development opportunities, the Mayor’s Hispanic American Advisory Board, FreshMinistries’ Beaver Street Enterprise Center, Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Center, African American Chamber of Commerce and the City’s Economic Development Commission. RSVP by June 15 to 630-2747.
