Tom Crawford, Director of the Department of Housing and Community Services
of the S J C Affordable Housing Organization and Walter Kelly, Chairman of Economic Development Subcommittee of West Augustine CRA were the guest speakers for the May monthly Chapter meeting. The topic of discussion was the Infill Housing Program. Members were informed of what is taking place to increase affordable housing in St. Johns County. In conjunction with advising us of about obtaining land for the new Habitat Community, the speakers addressed a prominent concern of us all; the lack of affordable housing in St. Johns County. Mr. Crawford and Mr. Kelly were the barriers of good news and enlightened us about the lots for affordable housing and areas of Intention to open platted roads in West Augustine. New ideas and intentions for West St. Augustine and the possibility of more affordable housing in St. Johns County was welcome news to us all.
On May 13th three Chapter members traveled to Washington DC to attend the Midyear Convention. Inez Tankesly of Watson Realty Corp, President, Julie Knowles of Premier Properties, President Elect and Chris Rich of ICI Homes, Vice President of Membership enjoyed three dynamic days in the Capitol city. Although educational sessions were back to back and left little time to take in the sites the trio did manage to walk a couple of blocks to the Capitol. Most importantly they returned with a wealth of valuable information on how to run and manage a more effective Chapter, how to grow their business taking it to the next level and the latest on technology for the real estate industry. The three Board members will immediately put into place what they learned and deliver to the Chapter members a synopsis of their newly gained knowledge.
