Main Street Bridge closings

As part of the Main Street Bridge repainting/repair project, one northbound lane will be closed daily, beginning today through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

One southbound lane will be closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Thursday.

The bridge will be completely closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. today through Thursday.

Traffic will be detoured to the Acosta Bridge. Single lanes will be closed on Independent Drive near the Main Street Bridge from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Thursday night.

• Robert G. Simpson, director of general aviation at Jacksonville International Airport, has received the distinction of Accredited Airport Executive by the American Association of Airport Executives.

• The Clara White Mission will host its Miracle on Ashley Street Celebrity Chefs & Servers fundraiser May 20 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

• A seminar on The Computer Spa’s tithing program will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 20, in the Beaver Street Enterprise Center, 1225 W. Beaver St. The seminar is geared for churches and all nonprofits that are serious about raising money for their organization. Attending will be one of The Computer Spa’s beneficiaries, Gregory Hooper, who is trying to raise money for a double-lung transplant.

• Investment counselor Linda Larkin-Smith and Celeste Krueger, president of Celeste Krueger & Associates, are sponsoring a weekend workshop Friday and Saturday at The Inn at Oak Street in Avondale. The workshop, WHEW!, Wealth, Health & Energy for Women, includes several sessions on finance and wine tastings, Yoga, massages and gourmet meals. Cost is $200 per person plus accommodations. • American composer Paul Moravec, the 2004 Pulitzer Prize Winner in music, will serve as guest composer for the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra’s Fresh Ink 2004 Florida Composers’ Competition, which runs Wednesday-Friday. During the three-day event, Moravec will act as a mentor during orchestral readings of new music, conducted by JSO music director Fabio Mechetti.

• The Jacksonville & the Beaches Convention and Visitors Bureau will honor its 2004 Hospitality Heroes during a luncheon Wednesday at the T-U Center. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m followed by the luncheon at noon.

• Susan L. Haag, who is with the local office of the attorney general, prosecuting health care fraud, placed second among the women in the world’s longest continual beach race (35 miles), affectionately known as the “Jetty to Jetty.” The race runs from Mayport to St. Augustine.
