• The Jacksonville Bar Association affirmed Alan Pickert as its president-elect at the annual meeting Thursday night. Pickert was the only nominee. Five board members were elected in a contested race: Robert Devine, Ray Driver, Caroline Emery, Michael Freed and Courtney Grimm.

• Luxury homebuilder Richard R. Dostie, a Toll Brothers company, has hired the McCormick Agency to handle public relations.

• Sonja Spahic has been named Employee of the Month at The Landing. She’s the senior security officer and will receive her degree in operation management this summer from Remington College.

• The Jacksonville Urban League, in partnership with Renaissance Design Build Group, is honoring National Negro Heritage Night tonight at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. They’ll acknowledge players who participated in the Negro Leagues.

• We may be getting another PGA Tour event. The Tour, which conducts the Players Championship each year, also has a minor league called the Nationwide Tour and the Country Club of Orange Park may get a stop in 2005. It would be played two weeks after the Players and on the same weekend as the famed Masters in Augusta, Ga.

• The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra travels to Ponte Vedra Beach Saturday for its BRASS Community Concert. It begins at 7 p.m. on the grounds of the TPC Sawgrass.

• The Downtown Council isn’t meeting today — it’s the fourth Friday of the month and they meet on the first and third. They’ll resume next Friday with a Fidelity National executive disucssing the Fortune 500 company’s move here.

This week’s Downtown This Week magazine features Jacksonville Bank and its president, Gil Pomar. Both have big events this weekend - it’s the bank’s fifth anniversary and Pomar’s getting married. The magazine is available all over the downtown area.
