• Mayor’s office press secretary Heather Murphy has a new job. She’s joining the Super Bowl Host Committee as special projects director.

• The awning laying on the sidewalk isn’t part of the renovation project — it was a casualty of the storm — but AmSouth Bank is doing some interior remodeling to its headquarters on Laura Street.

• It’s time to “Taste the Music” again. The St. Johns River City Band it hosting its annual fundraiser Sept. 23 in the Aetna building on the Southbank. It’s scheduled from 5:30 p.m.-9: 30 p.m. and includes wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres, music and a silent auction.

• There will be a broadcasting change in the Jaguars’ postgame shows this year. In the past, announcers Cole Pepper and Pete Banaczak did the shows from either one of the clubs or the Bud Zone, speaking from a stage so the fans could see them. No more — too many technical problems, so they’ll be in a radio studio under the stadium.

• With Duval County Schools still closed, City Hall employees said they were caught off guard and had to scramble to find child care.

• The Jacksonville Economic Development Commission is offering an Empowerment Zone tax workshop Sept. 16 from 11:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m. The workshop will address Empowerment Zone tax incentives and Enterprise Zone state tax incentives. Various speakers will also be present.

• The Jacksonville Economic Development Commission may have to push back plans to restaff. The JEDC had hoped to announce hires for 31 positions in early October, but Mayor John Peyton still hasn’t OK’ed the reorganization. A recruiting firm received more than 1,000 resumes for the jobs and is still separating the qualified applicants from the chaff. After that the JEDC will decide whom to interview for each position. JEDC spokesperson Jean Moyer said the early October deadline, “could still be possible, but as time goes by is looking less so.”

• According to Alltel Stadium management, the hurricane also may play a role in rescheduling the upcoming Willie E. Gary Classic, currently set for Saturday. Apparently the storm damaged Gary’s Stuart, Fla. office and there are now questions about how many tickets can be sold in the aftermath.

• Workers in the Bank of America Tower were still dodging raindrops when they returned to work Tuesday. The building’s lobby sprung several leaks in the ceiling, most of them positioned directly over the popular coffee stand.
