• The mayor’s office will appeal a design committee’s decision that is currently blocking permitting on its plans for the new Duval County Courthouse. The appeal will likely come at the next meeting of the Downtown Development Authority and will emphasize the cost savings of the proposed scaled-down design. The DDA has the power to overturn the Design and Review Committee’s decision. If the DDA appeal isn’t successful, the next step is the City Council.
• The Jaguars will celebrate their 10th anniversary with a festive halftime show at Sunday’s home opener against the Denver Broncos. In pregame ceremonies, the team will introduce the Jaguars Alumni Group Ambassadors, which includes several former players who remain actively involved in the organization and the community. Other pregame highlights include a flyover and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra performing the National Anthem.
• The Cathedral School for Early Learning opened for business this week. The school provides an educational program for children ages 3 months to 4-years-old.
