• Mayor John Peyton has named Lisa Rowe to his executive team. Rowe has been director of communications for the Better Jacksonville Plan. She will work to develop initiatives, oversee policy matters as assigned and serve as a liaison to various organizations and authorities.

• City Council president Elaine Brown plans to invite the mayors from Baldwin and the beaches cities to her upcoming Hurricane Workshop. She’s already counting on the attendance of Neptune Beach mayor Dick Brown, her husband. “I’ll talk to the boy,” she said. For more, see page 4.

• It looks like downtown parking fines will increase when it comes to a City Council vote. Kevin Hyde, Suzanne Jenkins, Jerry Holland, Lake Ray, Mia Jones, Pat Lockett-Felder and Lynette Self say they have little issue with the bill. Ten votes are required to make it official.

• Though Heather Murphy has left the mayor’s office, she will remain as moderator for next Friday’s Victim Assistance Advisory Council free community forum. Murphy is now director of special projects for the Super Bowl Host Committee.

• Glenn E. Estess Sr., president of Rotary International, is the speaker at Monday’s Rotary Club of Jacksonville meeting at the Omni. The program begins at 11:45 a.m.

• Checker’s hamburgers are returning. Seven former Rally’s locations are being converted.

• The Duval Legislative Delegation organizational meeting and general legislative hearing is scheduled for Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. in City Council Chambers. A chair and vice chair will be elected at the meeting and the public is invited to speak on current issues. The deadline for filing local bills is noon Oct. 14. The local bill public hearing is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 21.

• Laura Giuffrida is the new career services director at Florida Coastal School of Law. She comes to FCSL from Holland & Knight.

• The Brooklyn/Riverside master planning project of the Downtown Development Authority is scheduled to meet Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at The Haskell Company.
