• Jerri Bisset at La Mee The Florist in Independent Square has finally caught up on her rest after the flower buying frenzy on Valentine’s Day. Bisset said the Independent Square sold more than 180 dozens of roses on V-Day with very few complaints. Only 13 people had problems with their orders.

• City Council president Elaine Brown is in Orlando for a few days at the Florida Leadership Class X conference so Council VP Kevin Hyde is the acting president.

• Our City Note a couple of weeks ago about the contractor working on the Trout River Bridge taking up space at Bert Maxwell Park may have indicated bad news for the fishermen that use the park, but things may actually turn out for the better. The contractor, Hal Jones, will ultimately remove and replace deteriorating pilings, build a new 225-foot pier west of the current pier and will repair any damage they cause. The work will not impact the park’s boat ramps or other facilities.

• This year’s Housing Partnership of Northeast Florida “Paint the Town” is set for April 30-May 7. They will be in the Brentwood neighborhood and if you’re interested in helping call them at 398-4424.

• It’s looking more and more like the authority that runs our airports will have a new name. House Bill 2005-1253 is working its way through the legislature at would allow the Jacksonville Airport Authority to change its name to Jacksonville Aviation Authority. It has passed the local delegation vote and a March 29 vote in Tallahassee saw 115 yeas and no nays.

• Springfield’s 27th annual Spring Home & Garden Tour will be Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15. The self-guided tour runs from noon to 5 p.m. both days.
