Security guard John Hugus was working temporarily at the Duval County Courthouse while he looked for a permanent job as a Lutheran pastor, but the Army National Guard came calling first. Hugus, a major in the Guard, was called up Friday to active duty for the fourth time. This time he’ll be deployed in Kuwait or Iraq, serving as chaplain for a security detachment. Hugus said he’ll likely leave in June or July for a 14-month tour.

• A one-day seminar for legal professionals will be held May 6 at Florida Community College’s West Campus. The event is co-sponsored by FCCJ, the Jacksonville Bar Association and the Northeast Florida Paralegal Association. The cost is $99 and includes lunch. • The Jacksonville Bar Association will not have a monthly luncheon in this month. April’s luncheon has been replaced with the Law Week luncheon at the Hyatt on May 5.

• Holland & Knight partner Michael G. Tanner has been appointed to the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education and named vice chair of the board of directors for the Youth Crisis Center.

• The Jacksonville Association of Women Lawyers (JWLA) will have a program titled “A Panel of Lawyers - An Open Discussion On the Practice of Law” on Tuesday at the Florida Coastal School of Law starting at 5:15 p.m. More information: Susan Haag, 348-2724, Ext. 101
