City-wide transportation projects was the subject of a recent bus tour led by The Florida Department of Transportation, the City and JTA. More than 15 ongoing developments were highlighted on the three-hour tour.
“A lot of money has been spent in Duval County to improve traffic,” Mayor John Peyton said at the start of the tour. “I know I’m looking forward to all of us getting a better look at what’s been done.”
Peyton later said he was impressed by the collaborative efforts of all the parties who continue to work to bring more projects on line.
“I think it’s amazing,” he said.
The tour started at City Hall and traveled north on I-95 before turning onto 9A. At almost the St. Johns County border, the tour headed back downtown via I-95. There were 15 stops along the way:
1. Trout River Bridge
2. Heckscher Drive
3. 9A at Merrill (Wonderwood)
4. McCormick Road and Kernan Boulevard (Wonderwood)
5. Kernan and Atlantic Boulevard
6. Atlantic and 9A
7. 9A and Beach Boulevard
8. Beach and Kernan
9. 9A project along St. Johns Bluff at the University of North Florida
10. J. Turner Butler Boulevard and 9A
11. I-295 and St. Augustine Road
12. I-295 and I-95
13. I-95 and JTB
14. Riverside Avenue and Hogan Street
15. I-95/I-10 interchange
