Give Alan Mosley a little credit. As director of the City’s Public Works Department, not only does he oversee more than 700 employees, he started on the job less than a month before the city hosted the Super Bowl.

“It was a whirlwind,” Mosley said of the experience, “but even during all of that activity I was having a wonderful time here.

“I wake up happy every morning today.”

When Mosley isn’t running back and forth to meetings, you can usually find him in his office located on the 12th floor of the City Hall Annex on Bay Street.

It’s there that he runs numerous staff meetings, reviews contracts and monitors the progress of projects citywide.

“It can be a challenge, but working for the City is my way of doing the right thing to help others,” he said. “It’s fulfilling.”

Mosley’s workspace is bigger than you might imagine. Yes, it does have a rather outdated look due to it being located in a building the City has made no secret of wanting to vacate, but it’s anything but gaudy.

Photos of family and friends line the walls and shelves. There are also a few certificates and awards. But Mosley said that beyond those minor changes, the office is largely the same as it was the day he moved in.

“I thought about moving a few things around,” he said. “But before I knew it I was already pretty busy.”
