The Downtown Council of the Chamber of Commerce held its last monthly meeting of the year Friday morning at River City Brewing Co.
President Travis Rigdon passed the gavel to Diantha Grant, Alzheimer’s Association regional director, who took over for 2006.
The 2006 Board was also introduced.
Several students from the A. Philip Randolph School Academies of Technology were also recognized. It is now a college preparatory school and the Downtown Council offers internships for students in law enforcement, information technology and other fields. The school has improved from a D school to a C+ school and has the motto, “We’re buzzing for a B!”
Grant said, “It’s a diamond in the rough,” and encouraged all members to participate in the internship and mentoring programs.
The Downtown Council will hold its next meeting Jan. 6 at 7:30 a.m. at River City Brewing Co.
