Gillis joins Akerman Senterfitt

Akerman Senterfitt is broadening the depth of its corporate and tax practices, adding H. Timothy Gillis (left) to the firm’s Jacksonville office. Gillis will advise clients on business and tax law issues and will assist clients in structuring sophisticated business transactions. Gillis was previously with McGuire Woods, LLP in Jacksonville and Rogers Towers. He also served as a judicial law clerk to Hon. Carleton D. Powell of the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C. He is admitted to both the Florida and District of Columbia Bars and is a member of the Florida Bar Association’s Business Law and Tax Sections. Gillis earned his Bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville University, his law degree from Florida State University College of Law, and his LLM in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. He has been an adjunct professor at Florida Coastal School of Law and presented seminars on corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies for both Lorman Education Services and the National Business Institute.

Open house

The Office of General Counsel is holding a holiday open house Thursday from 4-6 p.m. in the OGC offices on the fourth floor at City Hall. The open house will overlap Mayor John Peyton’s holiday gathering which gets underway at 5 p.m.

Name change and a move

Gregory Anderson and John Glenn has changed the name of their firm to AndersonGlenn, LLC. They have also relocated their North Florida office to 814 A1A N. Suite 220 in Ponte Vedra. The changes went into effect Nov. 1

Environmental Law conference

The 36th annual American Law Institute-American Bar Association course of study is set for Feb. 9-10 at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda in Washington, D.C. The conference is co-sponsored by the Environmental Law Institute and The Smithsonian Institute. It also includes an optional lecture the evening of Feb. 8.
