This week’s Workspace features hoops and perfect games from the office of the Salvation Army’s Major James “Jim” Seiler, area commander of the Northeast Florida branch. Seiler has been with the Salvation Army for 21 years, serving all across the world from Russia to Texas. He has been posted in Jacksonville since May 2003. Originally from Philadelphia, Seiler went to Asbury College in Kentucky where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and the University of Kentucky where he earned his master’s in business. He is an avid sports fan, following the UK basketball program and the Texas Rangers especially. Seiler’s wife Karol is an ordained minister and also major in the Salvation Army. They have two sons, Andy and Brian. This time of year is especially important to Seiler because of the Salvation Army’s mission during Christmas.

“We continue to do our year-end fundraising, but our first goal is making sure kids have gifts and families have food. Our goal is to make sure everyone is taken care of. Children need positive memories,” said Seiler. He says there’s a strong push for fundraising this time of year because funds collected now are used all year long, not just during Christmas.
