Dearing elected to board

Thomas Dearing, a shareholder with Fowler White Boggs Banker has been elected to the board of directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida. Dearing is the managing shareholder of the firm’s Jacksonville office where he practices in the commercial litigation practice group representing all types of business litigation including disputes involving lending institutions, real property, insurers and other corporate and individual business clients

Fowler White adds shareholder

Gregory B. Lower has joined the law firm of Fowler White Boggs Banker as a shareholder in the firm’s Jacksonville office. Lower will practice in the firm’s workers compensation practice group where he will concentrate in the area of Florida’s workers compensation defense for trial and appellate practice. Lower graduated from the University of Florida and went to law school at the University of Mississippi. He’s board certified in workers compensation law by The Florida Bar. Fowler White Boggs Banker is one of the state’s oldest firms with more 220 attorneys in nine offices in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Ft. Myers, Tallahassee, Orlando, Naples, West Palm Beach, Bonita Springs and Jacksonville.

Eckels passes Georgia Bar

Mark K. Eckels, a Boyd & Jenerette, P.A. shareholder, has been admitted to the State Bar of Georgia, and effective immediately, will expand his worker’s compensation and Longshoremen’s Act defense practice to include statewide coverage of Georgia claims.

The University of North Florida’s Legal Studies Institute in the division of continuing education is hosting a legal studies exploration night Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the University Center. The legal studies institute offers programs in paralegal certification, legal secretary certification, dual certification and a paralegal/certified legal assistant preparation program. The new term begins Feb. 6 and there’s a $90 discount if you enroll during the legal exploration night.
