• Super Bowl week was a busy one for the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. In addition to working extra hours for firefighting, emergency response and homeland security purposes, the department helped douse the stolen limousine that burst into flames and assisted in the rescue of two Jacksonville Sheriff’s Officers. In all, Chief Richard Barrett said his department worked 562,000 hours of overtime during Super Bowl week. His department’s operations plan went off without a hitch and apparently attracted some interest from other Super Bowl cities. The mayor of Glendale, Ariz. invited the JFRD down to brief his department prior to the next game which will be played in the Phoenix suburb.
• The Florida Department of Transportation is responsible to pay for the rest of the demolition on the Fuller Warren Bridge, but the State insists that the City will have to foot the bill to turn the wreckage into a public pier. But City Council member Suzanne Jenkins sees things differently. “If they’re going to pay $2 million to tear it down, why wouldn’t they pay $2 million to fix it up?” she asked.
• The I-95 ramps at McCoy’s Creek Boulevard will close permanently Feb. 21 due to ongoing complaints from motorists about safety. The FDOT is encouraging motorists to use the Forsyth off-ramp instead.
• You may have been wondering why the Ye Mystic Revellers pre-Lent, Mardi Gras-like bash didn’t get any publicity. A good reason — it was postponed due to the Super Bowl. It’s Feb. 18 at the Morocco Temple and such a good time is expected that they’ve rented buses to take party-goers back home.
• The new Edgewood Ave. restaurant is named La Primavera and we erred last week when we said it was La Cena’s Jerry Moran. Not. One of his ex-waiters opened it.
