• Maggie Bulin, an administrator in the City’s Emergency Operations Center, got a longstanding wish granted during the Super Bowl. After making an appeal to Mayor John Peyton — she ran his winning campaign two years ago — Bulin was able to meet Paul McCartney. “I was so excited,” Bulin said of the encounter. “He was so warm, gracious and gorgeous.” Oddly enough, Bulin was featured in a Jacksonville Journal “Beatle-mania” article almost 40 years ago.

• Our Chamber warns that someone is trying to scam you when they offer a membership in the “Florida Regional Chamber of Commerce.” No such animal.

• The Gator Bowl Association will do double duty this year with both the Atlantic Coast Conference championship in December and the Toyota Gator Bowl less than 30 days later, so the committee starts early with a March 1 meeting.

• Our youth home daniel’s annual gala will be February at The Florida Yacht Club, 5210 Yacht Club Road and they’ll honor descendants of founder James Jaquelin Daniel.

• The Marble Slab Creamery has opened its fourth location here, this one in San Marco.

• Expansion coming for Casa Dora, the little Italian restaurant on the same block as the Florida Theatre. Owner Sam Hamidi will take over the small storefront next door and knock down the wall.

• Our venerable Southside Businessmen’s Club, like most civic associations, has seen a drop in membership in recent years and has an ambitious New Year’s resolution: add 125 warm bodies.

• Correction to a City Note we ran Tuesday. The annual Guns and Hoses charity boxing event will be taking place Friday Feb. 25. Not Feb. 15 as we listed.

• Business appears to be picking up for the Burrito Gallery on Adams Street. They’re reporting an increasingly healthy lunch crowd.

• Landon Park in San Marco is about to be restored to the tune of $30,000. City Council member Art Shad, who represents the area, is close to securing a grant that would pay for new playground equipment, a new iron fence, and landscaping. Work should being soon.
