As a babe in the woods, the Downtown Neighborhoods Council of Realtors is slowly but surely finding its way after a year in existence.
And, they say, they are doing a pretty good job.
“We have been in existence for a year,” said Chairman Sam Morgan of Lifestyles Realtors. “We are trying to get the (members) more involved in the council and educate them about what is available downtown.
“We want them to tell us if they want to have the meeting in the same place each month or move it to various locations each month where we can learn more about history, culture, art, amenities that are available in the city, projects that are coming up and projects that are available now.”
About 25 Realtors and loan officers attended their first meeting of the New Year held at the Berkman Townhomes last week. It was an informal gathering that included lunch and networking, a tour of the condo project and a short meeting.
Morgan handed out a questionnaire during the meeting to find the best ways to meet the needs and interests of the members.
Morgan said they would have eight meetings a year and said he wanted to encourage Realtors from all areas of town who would like to know about what is going on downtown to attend the meetings and get involved.
“I don’t want to be the chair for the next 20 years,” Morgan told the members. “This is your council and we want to make it about what you want it to be.”
The Realtors who are representing the Berkman Townhomes, Terri Cornell, Joy Walker and Randy Jackson were on hand during the meeting to give Realtors a tour and explain each floor model.
The 20 town homes have either two or three bedrooms and all have two and one half baths. They range in price from $565,000 to $695,000 all with a beautiful riverfront and River walk view.
“Since the Super Bowl, we have had a tremendous amount of traffic,” said Walker. “We’ve had people who are coming downtown for the first time in years and seeing that we are here and people who are coming back this week with interest.”
The townhomes are half way sold out, but Walker said there are plans for seven more to be built facing the marina.
