• Might be a Spurrier in town this fall. South Carolina football coach Steve Spurrier’s youngest son wants to play college football but he isn’t big enough to play at a major schools, so he’s considering enrolling at Jacksonville U., which plays in the lowest division.
• New attorneys at Tritt & Franson: Doug Myers III and Tom Asbury.
• They’ll break ground Friday on the San Marco Place condo project. The main building will have 21 floors and the condos will sell from $189,000 to $1 million. They’ll start construction on the day after the Super Bowl.
• Wayne Sapp has joined Addison Commercial Real Estate.
• Jacksonville Community Council Inc, is planning its 30th anniversary to-do with J.F. Bryan as the chair and Fred Schultz as the honorary chair. They’ll have a dinner on Aug. 25.
• The Young Lawyers Section of the Jacksonville Bar Association will host a judicial breakfast honoring the Circuit Court Judges for the Fourth Judicial Circuit who are assigned to Civil divisions. It’s on Thursday, January 27, from 8-9 a.m. in Chief Judge Don Moran’s chambers.
• Timuquana Country Club has named its new golf pro. He’s Clint Avret, who comes from a private club in Hilton Head.
• The qualifying period for candidates running to replace two outgoing City Council members ended with few surprises Tuesday. Every previously announced candidate qualified and, with the exception of Republican John Draper, there were no last minute entries. With Draper, there are now six candidates running to replace Faye Rustin. Four are running to replace Jerry Holland. Holland and Rustin both resigned last year so that they could run for Supervisor of Elections. The primary election for all posts will be held on Feb. 15.
• Two new water taxi boarding stations are going in thanks to a federal grant. The one at the Friendship Fountain is complete, and the one between the Adams Mark and Berkman Plaza is near completion.
• Daytona Beach’s Embry Riddle Aeronautical University has shown some interest in leasing space at the City’s Cecil Field aeronautical industrial park. The school has been talking to the JEDC about renting some office or warehouse space for classrooms.
