Lou Frost may already have retired but the party will go on.
The longtime public defender left office earlier this month and a committee of attorneys and other friends are planning a party in his honor on Feb. 24 at the Morocco Temple.
“I can’t imagine that anyone is more popular than Lou has been over the years,” said one of the event’s co-chairs, attorney John Kalil. “He has served all of us well. He has been a mainstay in the legal community.”
Frost has battled cancer in recent months but the disease is now in remission. The retirement party was going to be in the fall prior to Frost’s departure from the office but his health caused the delay.
He made his first appearance in some time at this month’s Jacksonville Bar Association meeting where he was honored with a donation to install him as a Fellow in the Florida Bar Foundation.
Kalil’s committee contains numerous friends of Frost and advisers include several judges, who are barred by law from fundraising “but that hasn’t stopped them from helping,” said Kalil.
The evening event will be informal, said Kalil, and ticket prices will be $15.
“We want this to be affordable to everyone,” he said. “We’ll make up the rest through sponsorships.”
The party will have a cash bar, free beer and wine and heavy hors d’oeuvres.
Kalil and his committee are seeking sponsorships of $500 and $1,000, and he can be reached at 355-3311.
