Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland

Jerry Holland is known for many things. To the City he’s every bit as smart as he is slick. To his constituents when he was on the City Council he was good at getting things done. To Paxon High he’s a great baseball coach. And to the voters who most recently elected him to replace former Supervisor of Elections John Stafford, he’s the new guy.

Holland moved into the Elections Office on Monroe Street in May. Since that time he’s settled in, settled down and gotten to work.

“It’s hard to compare working for the City Council and now working over here,” Holland said from his recently remodeled office. “I went from having one employee, my aide, to having more than 30. It’s more about team work, which I really enjoy.”

For those who haven’t stopped by the Elections Office since Stafford resigned last year, it looks a bit different since Holland took control.

It’s bigger, brighter and, not surprisingly, covered wall-to-wall with everything Holland. Plaques, photos and framed mementos overflow. It’s nice to look at, he said, but it’s not “about the ego.

“Putting things up on the wall is more about having an appreciation for the community, remembering all of the things that have been accomplished through public service,” he said. “When people ask what it’s like to work for the government, I think I’ve done a good job of showing the difficult side and the fun side.”
