More than 40 local attorneys were recognized recently by the Supreme Court of Florida and Jacksonville Area Legal Aid for their many accumulated hours of free legal service in 2004.
In a letter from Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Barbara Pariente, the lawyers were thanked for their service and commitment to their fellow citizens.
“Your outstanding donation of legal services and your commitment to pro bono assistance are an inspiration to all attorneys and a significant contribution to your community,” Pariente said in the letter. “Through your pro bono efforts, you help ensure that indigent clients have access to the judicial system and legal recourse for their problems.”
Besides receiving a letter of commendation from Pariente, the attorneys also received lapel pins that coordinated with one of three levels of pro bono commitment. Gold pins were given to individuals with more than 100 hours of pro bono work, silver to those with between 50 and 99 hours and bronze pins went to attorneys with between 20 and 49 hours.
