Speaking before a room crowded with Jacksonville’s political and business heavy hitters, Florida Lt. Gov. Toni Jennings stressed that the most prominent issue facing the state had nothing to do with tourism, trade or hurricanes.

It was education and workforce development, Jennings said, that most captured the attention of Florida’s leaders.

Jennings was the speaker Thursday morning at a breakfast sponsored the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce and JEA. Held on the 19th floor of the electric authority’s downtown headquarters, it was there that a well-composed Jennings said Gov. Jeb Bush would, “make sure to put more dollars toward workforce development programs in the state’s community colleges and public schools.”

Limiting class size averages and raising teacher pay would also be discussed in the near future.

“In Florida we are proud to have such a good, solid economic foundation. We’re booming,” Jennings said. “And creating and enforcing the kind of programs that can benefit our educational system is one of our primary goals.”
