• The Jags Cafe on Forsyth Street isn’t closing, but it appears its owners are ready to jump ship. The restaurant is for sale.

• The City Council is in the process of eliminating a few councils and commissions that either haven’t met in years, have been absorbed by other government entities or have run their course. They include the Military Affairs Advisory Commission, Advisory Commission on Alcohol & Tobacco, Jacksonville Commission on Crime in the Black Community, First Coast Council, Intergovernmental Council, Small Business Advisory Commission and Jacksonville Commission on Family & Marriage.

• The schedule for next season’s FCCJ “Broadway in Jacksonville” series is complete. All shows are at the T-U Center and the list starts with “Annie” on Nov. 15-20 followed by “Movin’ Out”, Jan. 17-22; “Hairspray,” Feb. 28-March 5; and “The Phantom of the Opera,” May 17-June 4. “Disney’s The Lion King” is locked in for the following year.

• If you’re looking for Jaguar players, there are plenty at the World Golf Village today for a golf tournament benefiting St. Vincent’s. NFL Films is in town to shoot the tournament and Coach Jack Del Rio put the arm on numerous players to compete.

• Legislation to authorize the relocation of Brewster Hospital passed last month but don’t expect to see the LaVilla landmark go anywhere anytime soon. According to the Mayor’s Office, a contract to get the work done won’t be signed until the beginning of next month. After that it will take another 45-60 days to stabilize the hospital so it can be moved. “We’re hoping to complete the project by late summer,” said Mayor’s Office spokesperson Kristin Key.

• City Council aide Jenny Huxford was in an interesting position during a recent Fair Share Committee meeting. For months the committee, which is chaired by Huxford’s boss Sharon Copeland, has been working to overhaul the City’s development policies. Typically, Jeannie Fewell from the City’s Planning Department speaks at those meetings. However, she was unable to attend Wednesday and in her place to answer questions was Folks Huxford, Huxford’s husband.

• The company that owns St. Augustine’s Casa Monica Hotel continues to expand. They announced Thursday that they’ll build a 28-story condo/hotel/retail project in downtown St. Petersburg.

• The boom continues. The Florida Association of Realtors compiled home sales numbers for the first quarter and the Jacksonville area is up 13 percent is sales and 22 percent in median price.

• Speaking of the Landing, they’ve teamed up with The Ritz Voices’ Deborah McDuffy to offer open mic vocal showcases every Saturday afternoon. From 1 -3 p.m., aspiring singers can sign up and perform up to three songs on the Landing’s courtyard stage. After they’re done, McDuffy will offer feedback. Landing management said last week’s undertaking yielded a very healthy turnout. No word on the quality of the performances.
