Tucked away on the corner of Broad and Ashley streets in LaVilla, The Clara White Mission is where you’ll often find Ju’Coby Pittman-Peele, CEO of the nonprofit center. It’s there that Pittman-Peele puts in long hours while helping the underprivileged get back on their feet and learn how to support themselves.

“I’ve been here since 1993 and I’m still enjoying myself and the work we do here,” Pittman-Peele said. “Our clients are the eyes and ears of the community. They illustrate who’s out there and what the needs are.”

Pittman-Peele’s office is located on the second floor of the Clara White mission. It’s small, but well lit. Pittman-Peele described it as being “peaceful.”

“I like being able to look out of my window and see the beautiful surroundings outside,” she said. “I spend as much time here as I do at home, so it’s important to be as comfortable as possible.”

Making her even more comfortable are three vital elements: “Family, staff and fun.”

“Those are the things I love the most,” Pittman-Peele said. “And even though we work hard while we’re here during the day, we have a good time, too.”
