The Professional Directory is being prepared and attorneys can get updated photos taken at Bailey Publishing & Communications offices at 10 N. Newnan

Street until Friday, June 3 between the times of 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. No appointment necessary.

• One of City Council President Elaine Brown’s last jobs may be to appoint a new Jacksonville Zoo board member. The board’s bylaws require two Council members and they are down one since Faye Rustin resigned to run for Supervisor of Elections. The other Council member on the board is Warren Alvarez. The word is Sharon Copeland has expressed interest in the job.

• An e-mail from Council member Art Shad to a constituent seeking help through the City’s military combat pay program has elicited a response and it’s not very pleasant. Nikki Hawkins took exception to the tone of Shad’s response and

has vowed to make his next election her business

and “work tirelessly for whomever” is Shad’s

opponent. “Word of mouth is a powerful tool,”

she said.

• Apparently things went well for the delegation Jacksonville sent to Germany a couple of weeks ago. Michael Kruger and Nils Drewes, managers with PlanB Consulting out of Berlin, wrote Mayor John Peyton and said they are “convinced that there are a number of opportunities for Jacksonville” that came out of the meetings with City and business leaders.

• The annual TV-7 auction is June 4-6 and 11-13 from 7 to 11:30 each night.

• The Chamber’s annual politician appreciation events are coming up. They’ll honor the legislative delegation with a breakfast on June 14 and City Council President Brown gets her thank-yous at a luncheon on June 20.

• State Rep. Dick Kravitz says it will be late summer before he’s up and about after a fall at home sent him to the hospital for extensive surgery on his leg.

• Former Jacksonville Jaguars center Dave Widell has been hanging around Alltel Stadium this week and there’s a whole lot less of him. Widell looks like he’s about 40 pounds lighter than his playing days weight of 316.
